Bringing spinal cord research into the 21st Century

The Neil Sachse Centre (NSC) at SAHMRI leads benchtop to bedside research on spinal cord injuries. Collaboration is key to the centre’s success, proudly undertaking research projects in partnership with global spinal cord injury research leaders, medical imaging specialists and neurosurgeons.

The centre’s research capability includes benchtop studies, small and large animal trials as well as approved clinical patient trials.

The NSC is based on a Foundation established more than two decades ago by South Australian footballer Neil Sachse, who was left a quadriplegic after an on-field collision during a Victorian Football League game in 1975. Never one to be defined by his injury, Neil dedicated his life to establishing research into spinal cord injuries.

The NSC believes that research is the ultimate key to improving the quality of lives of people living with a spinal cord injury, as well as their caregivers, family, friends and colleagues.
