Section Leader: Dr Pirjo Apaja
This group is investigating the mechanisms that regulate protein trafficking and organelle function and homeostasis, and how dysfunction of the endo-lysosomal network contributes to disease conditions such as neurological disorders and cancer. The group focuses on discovering molecular networks that are responsible for protein trafficking in the endolysosome-autophagy system, and mechanisms for maintaining healthy proteostasis in cells. The group’s aim is to elucidate the mechanisms involved in organelle regulation in health and disease, with a view to development of therapeutics.
